Personal data collected by BC FamilyNet

If you contact us via phone or our website contact form, or if you subscribe to our membership email list, we collect your name, email address, and website address (optional).

For certain other benefits including advice, we may request additional types of personal data.  You may choose which data you provide.  You are not required to provide any personal information in order to access our services, but our ability to help you may be limited by the amount of information you provide.  We will help you as best we can, given the information you offer.

BC FamilyNet may use your personal contact information for the following purposes:

  • To respond to your questions via phone or email.
  • To report to you on our activities.
  • To connect you to government information and services.

Use of the Supporters and Members Lists by BC FamilyNet

The lists of supporters and members will only be used to communicate information about BC FamilyNet’s activities.  The supporters and members lists will only be shared with Executive Committee members in order to carry on our business and activities.

Consent

By using the BC FamilyNet website contact form, you agree to the use of your personal contact information as noted in the above sections of the Privacy Policy.  In certain limited circumstances (e.g., legal subpoenas, medical emergencies, or security reasons), personal information can be collected, used, or disclosed without your knowledge or consent.

Withdrawal of Consent

You may withdraw consent and request removal of your personal information from our records at any time. However, this may affect our ability to provide you with membership benefits and services.  In certain limited circumstances (e.g., legal subpoenas, medical emergencies, or security reasons), personal information can be collected, used, or disclosed without your knowledge or consent.

Accountability

BC FamilyNet is responsible and accountable for personal information under its control and has designated a privacy officer who will attempt to resolve all concerns from members regarding the use of their personal information.  BC FamilyNet makes reasonable efforts to keep all personal information accurate and secure, and to permanently delete personal information that is no longer relevant.

Website Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Website Media

If you contribute images to the website, you should avoid providing images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

External links

Links to websites not under our control are provided only for the convenience of our visitors. We do not offer any guarantee of safety or appropriateness of the content of these external sites. You are solely responsible for researching the privacy policies and data security of external sites before using any links on our site to navigate to them.

Who we share your data with

Except in rare cases of mandatory disclosure (see Consent above), the membership list will only be shared with Executive Committee members in order to carry on the business and activities of the society.

How long we retain your data

Contact information is retained for historical purposes unless you request its removal from our records.  If you leave a comment on the website, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Web hosts may maintain servers in various countries and may result in your personal information being transmitted across international borders.  Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.  Our site is hosted by Inclusion BC.  Their privacy, contact, and data protection information is available here.

Compliance; viewing/updating your contact information

If you wish to view or edit your personal information or if you feel BC FamilyNet has not complied with the terms of this policy, the BC FamilyNet Privacy Officer will respond in a timely manner to investigate and resolve the issue.  Please click here to contact us.
